Achievement Unlocked! Ko Ko Korina by Momina Mustehsan and Ahad Raza Mir is THE worst song in 11 years history of Coke Studio Pakistan. No, it’s not an opinion! It’s what the numbers indicate.
The song is remake of the classic Pakistani song of 1960s, sung by Ahmad Rushdi. The remake, however, is no match to the original. But remakes are not supposed to match the originals. They’re supposed to modernize old songs to appeal to millennials. But even with all those modern instruments, mixing, and editing – you still need some kind of singers who can do a bit more than reading the lyrics. Coke Studio thought they had them singers:
Ahad Raza Mir CANNOT SING. And Momina Mustehsan’s singing is quite average in this one. And as a result, we have a song that’s been on YouTube’s trending list for about 24 hours. Not for the right reasons though.
The song has been disliked by 17000 users in a little over 24 hours
Remember Sayonee by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Ali Noor? The song that took so much flak that Ali Noor had to post a ‘clarification’ video. Well, Sayonee has about 6800 dislikes in ONE YEAR. That’s the song that was widely criticized.
Coke Studio Pakistan songs are usually well received by the audience. An average Coke Studio song is disliked by a mere 5% of users who react to it.
Ko Ko Korina was disliked by 40% of the users who reacted to it on YouTube.
Let that sink in.
And to be honest, I’m worried for the 60% who liked it. There were positives too, perhaps:
If you haven’t heard the song yet, here’s the masterpiece:
Congratulations, Momina and Ahad. Let’s ruin more classics.
