2019 has been the year of 5G. Fifth Generation cellular network technology has seen good adoption across the world. Verizon brought it to the United States earlier this year. Other countries are adopting it too. And looks like Pakistan is also going to get a taste of it real soon.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a public notice, requesting application for development and testing of 5G in Pakistan.
So PTA has invited applications from its licensees, R&D organizations, academic institutions, equipment manufacturers and vendors. That is for trial of 5G in Pakistan.
This includes existing network providers: Mobilink / Jazz & Warid, Zong, Telenor, and Ufone. All of these, except Ufone, have the 4G license for now. We can hope that, after some testing, some of the network providers would get a license for 5G in Pakistan in 2019. But that’s a long shot.
